Day 30 May 6
Today in class we looked at the good ways to use wikepedia as a teacher and for your students. We talked about the importance of validating sites that you use. When using Wikipedia it is important to look at the external links that they have posted to make sure the information is accurate. For the most part things that are looked up often are checked for the validty everyday. We looked at a website talking about 4 Ways to Use Wikipedia. These were good ways to look at using wikipedia. I plan on letting my students use Wikipedia as a resource if they have other sources that go along with it to back up what it is saying. And the information is accurate.

Day 28 April 29
Today in class we choose websites to validate. The website I decided to pick had to do with Martin Luther King Jr. This website had inappropriate vocabulary and rap lyrics which I thought did not really go along with what you think Martin Luther King Jr. is.

Day 27 April 27
Today in class we learned different ways to know if a website is reliable or not. You can use triangulate, by looking up other information to see how reliable it is. Seeing who the source is a big part of seeing how reliable something is. The standard that went along with this activity was 3d (Model Digital-Age Work and Learning) model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

Day 26 April 22
Today in class we did presentations about the benefits and downfalls to using smartboards. Everyone had different lesson activities that would be used as a interactive way to use the smartboards. The frog disection lab was very interesting and a different way to learn about the frogs. Most of the class agreed that smartboards were a waste of money unless you had proper training and knew how exactly to use it.
Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Day 25 April 20
I do not really think that smartboards are worth the investment. Most things that are interactive can just be done on computers have students rotate its not really necessary to be doing it in front of the entire class. Using it to type and write things out would be kind of easier but you can do the same thing with using a dry erase board. I do believe that most teachers do not understand the useful ways that it could be used in. A workshop should be offered to help teachers become more familiar and brainstorm ideas for using the smartboard.
Day 24 April 15
Today in class we looked up a lesson that would be good for young kids to use with the smartboard. We learned how to use the smartboard in a productive way for students. The lesson plan that we found had to do with the US and learning the 50 states. The standard that goes with using smartboards is 2A (Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments) design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
Tuesday, April 13, 2010
Day 23 April 13
Today in class we are learning about smart boards. Smartboards are used very often in schools and it is important for us as future teachers to know how to use them in productive ways to benefit our students. One good thing about smartboards that I learned from the article we read was "It quickens the pace of lessons and engages the whole class more. It is much more immediate" (Cunningham, Kerr, McEune, Smith and Harris 2003).

Day 22 April 8
Today in class we continued our work on fixing the webquest that we have choosen. The 21st century skill that goes with using webquests for students is (learning and innovation skills) Communication & Collaboration. My webquest.
Saturday, April 10, 2010
Day 21 April 6
Today in class we worked on our webquest, we corrected what we thought was wrong and how to improve it. I chose to change the colors, some content, pictures, and etc. The ISTE NETS standard that goes with creating a webquest is 1d 1. (Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity) model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments. I would use a webquest for creating something that can be done from home (if a computer is available). If school were to be cancelled one day the students would still be able to get their work accomplished.
Thursday, April 1, 2010
Day 20 April 1
The webquest that I am going to be making changes to is about Federal Holidays. I plan on adding pictures and making it a little more patriotic because it is talking about federal holidays that are celebrated by most people in the United States. The assignment is suppose to be done in teams but I think doing it individually is more productive. The students will also write a short essay telling about their holiday. The CSO that went along with my activity is Third Grade SS.O.3.1.3 explain the significance of patriotic symbols, holidays, celebrations and famous people.
Tuesday, March 30, 2010
Day 19 March 30
Today in class we looked at different webquest and looked at them from the different views in our group of four people. In the group I was The Altitudinist which is all about a higher level of thinking. The webquest that best fit for my level of thinking was the Unraveling the Underground Railroad because it was about journaling from the point of view of a specific character which requires some research into the different characters. The student standard that best goes along with this is 3b (Research and Information Fluency) locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.
Day 18 March 25
Today in class we looked at the students photo stories and made comments. We made positive and creative comments that helped the students get the feedback that they were looking for. The ISTE NETS for Students that is closely related to this is 1b (Creativity and Innovation) create original works as a means of personal or group expression. Creating photostories is good for students to put some of their work into a more visual form and makes it easier to see and understand different things that are going on in the students minds.
Tuesday, March 23, 2010
Day 17 March 23
Today in class we used Ning as a new networking site that is completely private and can only be used if you are invited by the person on the site. We made a mini biography about ourselves that included pictures. This site is good because it allows certain privacy options that other sites do not have. This site allows students to be creative while using text and annimations that are easy to upload on to the blog posting. Using sites like this are good for students because they can use it for class purposes and also for personal uses.

Day 16 March 11
We didn't have class today but we were sent home to work on our magazine covers for teacher of the year. This was a good exercise to make you think about what kind of teacher you plan to be in the future and the kinds of things that you find important. The 21st Century Skill that was used had to do with Media Literacy. I plan on using this type of idea for students to make a cover about anything, they can make a magazine cover that deals with any subject and it would show how much they know about that given topic.
Day 15 March 9
Today in class we looked at two magazine covers that had Arnold on them, both covers were done at the same time frame but are showing two completely different types of people. This shows how much media can make someone look anyway they want with the different tools out there. The 21st Century Skill that goes along with this is media literacy skills. This helps students become aware of what the media does to make you think a certain way about something, it influences everybody to think one way.
Thursday, March 4, 2010
Day 14 March 4
Whil in class today we made a wordle describing Web 2.0. We used nouns and adjectives to describe. We then used jing to upload it onto our desktop as a picture. Jing is a nice tool to use because it allows you to capture things that you might not be able to copy. Using wordle is a nice way for students to practice using nouns and adjectives to describe different subject material. The 21st Century skill we are using has to do with innovation. Using a wordle is a novative way to look at something.

Day 13 March 2
While in class today we finished collaborating with the 6th grade students on their stories. After we finished doing that we used blackboard to put all of our links together in the bookmark section. Using the bookmark section of blackboard makes it easier to keep all of our important links in the same area. It helps with the transmedia navigation because that is how we get along with using the internet.
Day 12 February 25
In class today we made a mini survey that was interactive using PowerPoint. I choose a simple question asking which animal was bigger between turtle and elephant. We used slide share to upload it onto our blog. The life and skills standard that could be used with this activity is Initiative & Self-Direction, Be Self-directed Learners
Go beyond basic mastery of skills and/or curriculum to explore and expand one’s own learning and opportunities to gain expertise. I would let my students ask questions about certain topics that could go with the subject area we are learning at that particular time.

Day 11 February 23
While in class today we had a story collaboration with 5Th grade students. I had a to continue a story with Indian 8, their story was about a dog and kittens. Using blogging to communicate stories with other people is a good idea, it's a unique way to different ideas about your topic of writing. The standard that I would use with this activity would be Flexibility & Adaptability, Incorporate feedback effectively. I would use this type or blogging to start a story and have every student input their ideas to make it one large classroom story that everyone participated in creating. The standards that we used this week were from 21st Century Framework
Day 10 February 18
Today in class we finished up our photo stories about being a teacher, we used a quote to base our story around. It was a nice way to look at teaching and trying to find a quote that goes best with your thinking of being a teacher. The standard that goes along with this is 1d. (Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity) model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments. I think sharing our photo stories is a good way to share your ideas with other students and help them learn more about topics they normally wouldn't know anything about.
Day 9 February 16
In class today we watched other students and classes photo stories. Some were very effective how they were put together and the message they were trying to get across was very well illustrated. Using photo story is a fun and different way to put things together instead of using powerpoint. The standard that most closely relates to this activity would be 1a. (Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity) promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. I would use photo story to let students be creative and use their resources to come up with a affective way to get your point and ideas across about a certain topic or subject.

Day 8 February 11
In my out of school life I use technology very often such as email, google, facebook, and skype. I use this things to look up specific information. When using facebook and skype I am communicating with some people that are 100's of miles away from me. When using skype I feel close to that person and it't more of a personal conversation opposed to facebook or text messaging. Facebook is nice though for short thoughts to express with your friends and family.
Day 7 February 9
Other than in this class I've never really used this type of technology in any of my classes. Any kind of technology that I have used has just been the usual things and most people do daily. Sometimes I collaborate with other students and teachers to create work. The types of things we have been using in class has been different and a learning experience.
Thursday, February 4, 2010
Day 6 February 4
Today in class we got on skype with 5th grade students in California. They had asked us questions and we had to research and answer the question for them. The standard that went along with this activity 3A (Model Digital-Age Work and Learning) Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers: demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. I would use skype with other classrooms to demonstrate how to use this type of technology in the correct way.

Graph

In class today we used google forms to make a little survey and then used our results to form a graph. The standard that closely relates to this activity would be 2A (Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments) design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. I would use this kind of activity to put little starting activties for lessons and use the graphs to show data.

Day Four January 28
Today in class we joined the facebook group web 2.0 and schools. We made comments about articles that had to do with texting lingo ruining students english language. We also watched a video about a man that wrote a book about our generation being dumb due to technology. The standard most closely related to this activity is 1B (Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity) engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. By watching the debate video on youtube we were looking at real-world issues that people face today due to everyones different opinions on technology and how they view it helping or harming. Watching debates on different peoples thoughts can help you think about things in a different way and look outside the box.
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
Day Three January 26
Today in class we joined Classroom 2.0. The standard that was closely related to this activity was 3 (Model Digital-Age Work and Learning) B (collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation) I had no clue before that things like this were around and it would be nice to bounce ideas off of other professionals and get ideas from them. Sometimes looking at things in someone else's perspective helps me to get other ideas that are different and more creative.
Day Two January 21
In our second day of class we used google documents to create a online resume and then published it. The standard that I thought went along with this assignment was 2 (Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments) A (design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity) I would use something like this with older students in the 4th or 5th grade to create a pretend resume to see what one will look like when the time comes. It is easier to use a template because it tells you exactly what goes into the different parts.
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Day One January 19
On the first day of class we began to set up a blog for us to use through out the semester. By doing this it met the NETS for Teachers standard number 3 Model Digital-Age Work and Learning Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers: B (collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation.) Using a blog met this standard because we will be interacting with other people in the class and the professor. Writing in a blog will help to get my point across and my feelings about a certain subject or idea. I would use this when I become a teacher for children to use as a typed journal of the day's activties opposed to writing on paper.
