Day 19 March 30

Today in class we looked at different webquest and looked at them from the different views in our group of four people. In the group I was The Altitudinist which is all about a higher level of thinking. The webquest that best fit for my level of thinking was the Unraveling the Underground Railroad because it was about journaling from the point of view of a specific character which requires some research into the different characters. The student standard that best goes along with this is 3b (Research and Information Fluency) locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.

Day 18 March 25

Today in class we looked at the students photo stories and made comments. We made positive and creative comments that helped the students get the feedback that they were looking for. The ISTE NETS for Students that is closely related to this is 1b (Creativity and Innovation) create original works as a means of personal or group expression. Creating photostories is good for students to put some of their work into a more visual form and makes it easier to see and understand different things that are going on in the students minds.

Day 17 March 23

Today in class we used Ning as a new networking site that is completely private and can only be used if you are invited by the person on the site. We made a mini biography about ourselves that included pictures. This site is good because it allows certain privacy options that other sites do not have. This site allows students to be creative while using text and annimations that are easy to upload on to the blog posting. Using sites like this are good for students because they can use it for class purposes and also for personal uses.

Day 16 March 11

We didn't have class today but we were sent home to work on our magazine covers for teacher of the year. This was a good exercise to make you think about what kind of teacher you plan to be in the future and the kinds of things that you find important. The 21st Century Skill that was used had to do with Media Literacy. I plan on using this type of idea for students to make a cover about anything, they can make a magazine cover that deals with any subject and it would show how much they know about that given topic.

Day 15 March 9

Today in class we looked at two magazine covers that had Arnold on them, both covers were done at the same time frame but are showing two completely different types of people. This shows how much media can make someone look anyway they want with the different tools out there. The 21st Century Skill that goes along with this is media literacy skills. This helps students become aware of what the media does to make you think a certain way about something, it influences everybody to think one way.

Day 14 March 4

Whil in class today we made a wordle describing Web 2.0. We used nouns and adjectives to describe. We then used jing to upload it onto our desktop as a picture. Jing is a nice tool to use because it allows you to capture things that you might not be able to copy. Using wordle is a nice way for students to practice using nouns and adjectives to describe different subject material. The 21st Century skill we are using has to do with innovation. Using a wordle is a novative way to look at something.

Day 13 March 2

While in class today we finished collaborating with the 6th grade students on their stories. After we finished doing that we used blackboard to put all of our links together in the bookmark section. Using the bookmark section of blackboard makes it easier to keep all of our important links in the same area. It helps with the transmedia navigation because that is how we get along with using the internet.

Day 12 February 25

In class today we made a mini survey that was interactive using PowerPoint. I choose a simple question asking which animal was bigger between turtle and elephant. We used slide share to upload it onto our blog. The life and skills standard that could be used with this activity is Initiative & Self-Direction, Be Self-directed Learners
Go beyond basic mastery of skills and/or curriculum to explore and expand one’s own learning and opportunities to gain expertise. I would let my students ask questions about certain topics that could go with the subject area we are learning at that particular time.
